Second Datacenter Opening Planned for New Year’s

We are pleased to announce that we are now on track to open a second data center in Rochester, NY with Logical Solutions, a SAS70 certified, wholly owned data facility. We looked at several providers in the selection process and decided to contract with Logical Solutions because of their first-rate technology and, of course, price. One thing we have learned over the years of being data center gypsies is that you want to locate your servers in a facility that is wholly owned and managed by the company with which you are contracting. There are many, many “resellers” of colocation space out there and these end up being essentially shell companies that have little control over what happens in the data center and, in the era of cloud computing and increasing supply of colocation space driving prices down, are increasingly struggling to remain financially viable with shrinking margins. In short, we look for companies that own their data center and can, therefore, provide us with better longer-term pricing and service. Click on the Logical Solutions link to read more about the data center.

We expect that the new data center will come online around New Year’s and will enable the eRecord to finally have no single point of failure with full, real-time backups and failover in the event of a data center disaster. From this point forward, the eRecord will be able to remain online even in the event of a total loss of connectivity of one of our data centers. Each data center will be backing up to the other one in real time so that in the event of a data center disaster, users on the failed center can be seamlessly failed over to the other data center without significant data loss in a matter of minutes.

Once the new center in Rochester is live, we are considering relocating our current servers in Asheville to a more Western city such as Denver, Dallas, or Phoenix to give our Western customers fewer hops to our servers. (google “hop count” to find out more).

I will post updates  as they are available.
